Mountain State Invitational is a fun FLL event hosted by Fairmont State University, the High Technology Consortium, and NASA’s Katherine Johnson IV&V Facility on July 12th – July 14th  2019.

The mission of the Mountain State Invitational is to showcase the best West Virginia has to offer, an invitational tournament in the Eastern regions of the United States, and to increase interaction between teams in the Americas (North, Central, and South). In our 2017 invitational, the international component was so positive that we are seeking to increase the percentage of international teams and have invited 10 countries!  Coming from one of the poorest states in the nation, we also know that the cost of attending an event of this caliber is often cost prohibitive, so we strive to be the most affordable FLL Invitational in the world.

Through this event teams can gain new friendships, collaboration, and a celebration of STEM through our partnership with NASA and the numerous aerospace companies located in North Central West Virginia including NOAA, FBI, Aurora Flight Sciences, Pratt Whitney, Bombardier Aerospace, Dept. of Energy’s NETL, and many more! The Mountain State Invitational (MSI) will be an opportunity for teams to expand on their FLL projects and programming from the prior season, Into Orbit. Teams can also experience the excitement of High Adventure that West Virginia has to offer through our partnership with WVU’s Adventure WV Outdoor Education Center!  Our state motto is Wild and Wonderful, and we have reserved 400 seats for your team to go mountain biking, rock climbing, on a canopy tour, and much more, before and after the tournament.  You can explore the options and register here!
